General information
The building of the Museum Center of the Ministry of Culture of the Azerbaijan Republic is located in the very center of Baku, on the Seaside Boulevard; it was constructed in 1960 in a project led by outstanding Azerbaijani architect Hasan Majidov to commemorate the 90th anniversary of V.I.Lenin and was opened in 1961 as a branch of the Moscow Lenin Museum. Hasan Majidov also realised a number of other projects in Azerbaijan – the Baku airport building in Bina, the Hotel Baku, the Drama Theatre in Nakhchivan and others.
In 1991, following the collapse of the USSR, by decree of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic the building was transferred to the Ministry of Culture of the Azerbaijan Republic and renamed the Museum Center.

Chronology

Following the collapse of the USSR, the building was transferred to the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and renamed the Museum Centre by decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Directorate of the Museum Centre was established by decision of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The Art Gallery was officially opened, coinciding with an exhibition, Ithaf (Dedication) dedicated to the memory of Azerbaijani artists.

The Assembly Hall was officially opened, coinciding with a UNESCO International Conference.

The Round Hall was officially opened, coinciding with a presentation of awards to culture and art workers of Azerbaijan.
