‘Dolls’ Second Wind’. A Conference within the Framework of the 1st Baku International Doll Biennale

A conference, ‘Dolls’ Second Wind’ was held in the Assembly Hall of the Museum Centre at12:00 on 8 November 2011. Focused on questions concerning the art of doll-making, the main purpose of the conference was to acquaint participants with the significant events in the world of dolls over the past few years. Interesting new trends were also discussed, as were the prospects for exchanges of experience between masters of the art of doll-making. The event was opened by Galib Gasimov, head of the Department of Fine Arts of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of Azerbaijan. He greeted the guests warmly, noting the significance of such events for the country. Irina Myzina, Director of the Vakhtanov Gallery and representative of the ‘World Dolls’ cultural foundation, informed participants about the history of the art of doll-making in Russia, and the foundation’s Executive Director Olga Lakhina talked about its work. Katerina Veshtak, representative of the Culture Department of Novara province, Italy, expressed her gratitude for the invitation and her hopes for the plans for cooperation between the two countries in the field of the art of the doll. Inara Liepa, director of the Museum of Doll Art, Riga, also talked about her work in doll art. Yvonne Flipse, well-known artist from the Netherlands, shared interesting stories about her dolls. Olga Gerr, from St. Petersburg presented a film about the brilliant master Victor Grigoriev, who screens dolls.
