The State Committee for Family, Women and Children Affairs is very active in organising events to help raise the young generation in a moral and national spirit and to promote family values. One of the activities carried out to improve awareness and to raise the status of the family was the very successful ‘Azerbaijan Family’ film festival, 2009-2010, organised as part of the project ‘Violence Against Women in the 21st Century’ by the committee and the Heydar Aliyev Foundation in cooperation with the United Nations Population Fund. There was an ‘Azerbaijan Family’ film festival this year, too, at the Museum Centre of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Azerbaijan Republic. It opened on 9 February 2011and the final presentation ceremony was held on 11 May 2011. A competition was announced in order to broaden the scope of the festival and to raise levels of professionalism. A special jury was formed from well-known statesmen, directors, writers and actors to judge the works submitted to the competition.
