On the 4th of April at the Assembly hall of the Museum Center was held Scientific Conference in the framework of IV International Festival of Contemporary Music named after Qara Qarayev.The unique contribution made by the great Azerbaijani composer Qara Qarayev to this field and the outstanding music that he gave to the world were widely discussed at the conference. Under the chairmanship of Russian musicologist Rauf Farhadov, the conference featured lectures on ‘Qara Qarayev: a 21st century viewpoint’, ‘The Problem of Gestalt in the Sound World of Karlheinz Stockhausen’, ‘On the Problem of Intertextuality in Music’, ‘Messiaen: a Composer of the 21st century’ and others. The special position occupied by the great composer, teacher and public figure Qara Qarayev among those who have brought international renown to the name of Azerbaijan and its music was underlined. The conference held an exchange of ideas about the scientific and theoretical styles of contemporary music, the developmental stages of these styles and the factors which stimulated such development, the secret of this music’s access to a large audience and other issues. Speakers also acknowledged that music festivals create a meeting ground for art figures, composers and music theorists and facilitate the creation of new projects.
