Closing Ceremony of “AZERBAIJANI FAMILY – 2010” Cinema Festival

The closing ceremony of the “Azerbaijani Family – 2010” cinema festival which had started on 11 February this year, was concluded on 12 May 2010 in the Assembly Hall of the Museum Centre. The chairman of the State Committee for Family, Women and Children’s Problems, Hijran Huseinova, delivered a speech at the event and said that the “Azerbaijani Family” festival, dedicated to 15 May, International Family Day, had been held for three years under the slogan of “A Healthy Family is the Basis of a Strong Country”. The festival was organized with the support of the “Against Violence Against Women in the 21st century” project of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the UN Population Fund and the “Against Violence Against Women” joint project of the UN Population Fund and the Government of Norway and the main target of the festival was to promote a successful policy for strengthening families and increasing their status. H. Huseinova said: “The national leader Heydar Aliyev demonstrated the sacred nature and strength of family traditions by the example of his own family. President Ilham Aliyev is successfully continuing his policy. While discussing measures taken in this sphere, one should especially underline the decrees of the head of state on solutions to the problems faced by family, women and children, as well as the activities of the President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, UNESCO and ISESCO goodwill ambassador and Member of Milli Majlis Mehriban Aliyeva in promoting the national traditions of the Azerbaijani nation to the world”.
This year foreign films were also presented in the competition. The jury chose 30 films in 4 nominations. Ombudsman Elmira Suleymanova, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Sevda Mammadaliyeva and Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Intigam Babayev spoke of the significance of such festivals and said that such events not only attract attention towards urgent problems, but also create opportunities for young directors to show their films to a wider audience. Afterwards there was the awards ceremony for the winners. The winners in the nominations of “Best Film”, “Best Foreign Film”, “Best Television Show”, “Best Student Film”, as well as the encouraging nomination of “Best Video” were presented with diplomas and gifts.
