Opening Ceremony: 22 January, 17:00
Organizer: Magazine “Azerbaijan Woman”
An exhibition of photography, designed to promote the creative work of Azerbaijani women photographers, was held in the Art Gallery of the Museum Centre from 22-26 January 2010. More than 100 artistic photographs by 14 of the most successful contemporary photographers were on display.
The times when photography was not recognised as an art and when women photographers were not taken seriously are now in the past. International critics and art theorists have declared the 21st century as the era of video installations and photography.
In Azerbaijan, as in the rest of the world, the social and political activities of women are on the rise. In this context, it is a fact that during the last ten years in our country a group of women photographic artists has appeared whose work merits the closest attention.
The photographic private view, given the same name as the magazine "Azerbaijan Woman", presented selected milestones in the not very lengthy, but wide-ranging history of the artistry of Azerbaijani women photographers, who have been able to create great and touching portraits of dazzling characters. On display were works which portrayed moments from the lives of women of different ages, professions and social strata in different contexts. The creators of this private view were remarkable for their special openness and courage in introducing materials, their originality of vision of subject and the variety of creative styles.
The exhibition presented the multi-dimensional characters of our compatriots who are full of strength, mystery, sadness, life and love. Although the women's characters are different, there is something common to all the works - the subjective view of the artists, full of grace, love and delight.
The initiator, organiser and sponsor of the project was the magazine "Azerbaijan Woman".
