The first Republican festival of decorative fine art opened in the Museum Centre of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism on 3 November 2009. During the festival examples were displayed of carpet weaving, batik, tapestry, artistic wood carving, metalwork, stone and bone carving, embroidery, ceramics, glasswork, macramé, jewellery, leatherwork, engraving etc.
Preparations for the festival began in February 2009. Regional exhibitions were held in Ganja, Sheki, Lenkoran, Khachmas and Sumqayit.
At the end of the year an exhibition will be held of works chosen by the Organising Committee. This exhibition will take place on 24 December in the Art Gallery of the Museum Centre.The first Republican festival of decorative fine art is being held with the intention of bringing out new, young talent in these fields. Azerbaijan has always been famous for its centuries old traditions. The festival will assist in the development of the decorative fine arts in the regions of Azerbaijan.
