Cinema evening, devoted to 90th anniversary of Azerbaijan famous cinema operator Xan Babayev

A cinema evening dedicated to the 90th anniversary of renowned cinema cameraman Khan Yusif oglu Babayev was held in the Assembly hall of the Museum Centre on 30 October 2009. Khan Yusif oglu Babayev was born in Lenkoran in 1919, into the family of a doctor, he studied at the Azerbaijani State College. In 1938, he entered the Cameraman Faculty of the All-Union State Institute of Cinematography (Moscow). At the beginning of the Second World War, however, he left education to join the army at the front. His military career ended in Germany. He was awarded orders and medals for his war service.

Khan Babayev finished the Institute in 1950 and continued his development at the Baku Cinema Studio. He worked as a grip on feature films such as “Black Rocks” (with A. Ismayilov), “Step Mother”, “Great Support” and “The Insubordinate Battalion” (with R. Ismayilov). He also made documentary films: “Answer the Call” (1947, with T. Akhundov), “Maker of New Life” (1949), “Treasure of Gadabey” (1950, with K. Hasanov), “The Republic Stadium” (1951), “The Oil Prospectors” (1952) and “Songs of Labour and Happiness” (1957).

Khan Babayev, with a camera team, made the first feature-length, documentary film in colour. He was a cameraman-poet, he depicted the nature of Azerbaijan.
