The First Baku International Book Exhibition – Fair
10.09.2009 - 12.09.2009For the first time in Azerbaijan, from 10th to 13th September in the Museum Center of Ministry of Culture and Tourism there was held The First Baku International Book Exhibition – Fair. Vice-Premier of the Azerbaijan Republic Elchin Efendiyev and Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfas Garayev. Among the participants there were many governmental officials, writers, foreign and local publishing representatives, Mass Media reps, actors, musicians, librarians etc.
In the building of the Museum Center there was atmosphere of holiday, as to meet a book is always an important event. Mr. Elchin Efendiyev said that Azerbaijanian people have always loved reading and treated a book with great admiration. Starting with “Kitabi Dede Gorgut” book up to nowadays, Azerbaijanians had a great respect for books. Our national leader Haydar Aliyev always cherished and loved books. On 12th January 2004 there was signed a decree “About mass typed publications”. According to the same decree, for the last several years there were printed and published more than 10 millions books of more than 400 titles. These books were presented to the libraries of Azerbaijan.
E. Efendiyev marked that this exhibition – fair isn’t only promoting a book in Azerbaijan and helps foreigners to get familiar with the books of Azerbaijan. The exhibition will help to establish new projects in future.
Guests from twenty countries of the world took part in the event. Minister of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Azerbaijan gave a speech, making a stress on an importance of the event in the cultural life of our republic.
